Wawota School “Protest”

June 18th, 2007 by LinuxChick

I hate to add fuel to this ridiculous fire, but a few things need to be mentioned regarding this topic. The information and opinions being spread around the net are all extremely one-sided.

First of all, Kieran King was not accused of using or selling marijuana. He was simply asked to stop talking about it with younger students in the school. Kieran is in grade 10. It’s one thing to have a discussion of this type with peers. It is entirely different to promote it or any other drug to young children.

The members of the Saskatchewan Marijuana Party, a registered political party, (big deal, any idiot can start a political party!) was upset about the fact that Mrs. Wilson, the schools principal, initiated a lock-down at the school. I, for one, am glad she did. When you watch the videos, you’ll see just how out of control he (protest leader in the cheap suit) became when confronted. As a parent of 3 children attending that school, I thank Mrs. Wilson for keeping him outside!

Based on the opinions of the leaders of this protest, they believe you can say whatever you want, whenever you want. So they would think it was alright for me to speak to their minor sons and daughters and tell them sex or alcohol is great, you should try it??

Watch the videos and decide for yourself, the participants in this protest had no intention of promoting free speech, they just wanted ruffle some feathers! Too bad they made themselves look ridiculous. Granted the “frumpy nurse” herself was out of control, but when someone from the school’s administration came out to talk to them, they wouldn’t let her get a word in edgewise either.

I’m all for freedom of speech, but use your heads people, there is a time and a place! A K to 12 school is not the place to promote the legalization of pot!

Why you can’t buy Apple’s new phone

June 18th, 2007 by LinuxChick

The most hyped consumer electronics device in years will make its debut on June 29, but Apple Inc. [AAPL-Q]‘s iPhone will be conspicuously absent from Canadian store shelves. Sold out? No – just not for sale.

The creator of the iPod and Macintosh is focusing on rolling out its latest gadget, a sleek cellphone, in the United States. Other markets will follow, though Apple hasn’t divulged any launch dates.

What’s becoming clear is Canadians who want to shell out more than $500 for their own iPhone will have to wait some time for the chance.

Figures. Ah well, I don’t want one anyway!
