Windows 2000: Resetting The Amin Password

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

A very good friend of mine passed away a few months ago. Besides being my Best Friends father, Doug was also my computer guru. He is were I ran for help when I couldn’t solve a problem on my own. Especially when it came to Windows!

Today it was my turn to help out. Not him directly of course, but his family. Before he passed away, Doug had given them password to his personal computer, it has since been lost and they had no way to gain access to much needed information.

After a bit of google searching, I happened upon what looked like a possible solution. Turns out it was fast, simple and very effective!

Petter Nordahl-Hagen’s Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

A quick download, burn the iso to a cd and away you go.

* This is a utility to (re)set the password of any user that has a valid (local) account on your NT system.

* You do not need to know the old password to set a new one.

* It works offline, that is, you have to shutdown your computer and boot off a floppydisk or CD.

* Will detect and offer to unlock locked or disabled out user accounts!

* It is also an almost fully functional registry editor!

Easy to follow instructions and downloads

As noted on the first screen you see, when the cd boots, I needed to use the “boot nousb” option in order to get it to boot properly. But once it’s running, the rest is simple.

Doug, you will be missed..
