Europe Says Bye to OS Monopoly

November 1st, 2007 by LinuxChick

Looks like Europe is collectively ready to bring Microsoft’s monopoly down so that other OS options will have a chance to flourish. Well, at least one group of like-minded people have managed to begin clearing the playing field some.

Sign of the Apocalypse? Wal-Mart Sells Linux PCs

November 1st, 2007 by Baldy

Linux, the free operating system that’s a perpetual underdog in the desktop market, is showing up in computers in Wal-Mart stores this week for the first time. About 600 Wal-Mart stores will carry the $199 Linux-powered Green gPC made by Everex of Taiwan, Wal-Mart said. It was available online on Wednesday. A comparable Everex PC that comes with Windows Vista Home Basic and more memory costs $99 more, or $298, partly because the manufacturer has to pay Microsoft for a software license. Both computers come with keyboard, mouse, and speakers, but no monitor.

I have bought computers from walmart before, for the linux based computers folks, and I have never had a lick of problems from them, Baldy

KDE Project Ships Fourth Beta Release for Leading Free Software Desktop, Codename “Kippie”

November 1st, 2007 by Baldy

October 30, 2007 (The INTERNET).

The KDE Community is happy to release the fourth Beta for KDE 4.0. This Beta aimed at further polishing of the KDE codebase and we would love to start receiving feedback from testers.
As KDE has largely has been in bugfix mode, this latest Beta aims to encourage testers to have a look at it to help us find and solve the remaining problems and bugs. Besides the stabilization of the codebase, some minor features have been added, including but not limited to much work on Plasma, the KDE 4 desktop shell.
Sebastian Kügler notes: “The improvements have been huge, and plasma is much closer to what it needs to be before the release. I am confident we will be able to finish it and present a very usable plasma to our userbase with KDE 4.0. We will then be able to extend on that and present truly innovative desktop interfaces throughout the KDE 4 lifecycle.

The new Beta 4 incorporates many improvements from previous Beta and alpha releases: Beta 3, Beta 2, Beta 1, Alpha 2 and Alpha 1.

Cracking Windows passwords with Linux

November 1st, 2007 by Baldy

Disclaimer: Do not try this on unauthorized systems.

If you lose a Windows password, or you buy a system that has an OS on it, but you don’t know the password, what are you to do? The best thing to do would be to throw in a Linux CD, format the drive, and install the Distro. But, what if you want to boot to the system and see what’s on there, and get data off?

And to learn the two ways to do it. and not I am not suggesting that you run and get passwords off of all your family computers then follow this Link
Have fun kids.
