San Diego based Slacker will be going head to head with some tough competition like, Apple Inc, Microsoft Corp, XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Raido
Slacker players will be able to play downloaded music, but it’s main emphasis is the radio style service.
Pre orders for Slacker are being taken on the Web site, with shipping to begin in early December. Suggested retail prices range from $200 for the 2BG/15 station model to $300 for the 8GB/40 station model.
100 000 units are expected to be done in the next three to six months.
Oh, by the way, as of now, Slacker Personal Radio is only available in the US. There are, however, plans to extend service to other parts of the world.

“Edgar Bronfman, CEO of the Warner Music Group, has publicly framed the music industry’s failure to accommodate file-sharing as an ‘inadvertent’ war on consumers. I’m left wondering how you can file a series of lawsuits inadvertently. ‘We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file sharing was exploding … By … moving at a glacial pace, we inadvertently went to war with consumers by denying them what they wanted and could otherwise find and as a result of course, consumers won.’”
Sorry this shows that the bigwigs have one thing on their minds profits! Let them start to fall and after 2 years they decide that maybe their agenda might have been a tad off base, Baldy.

“Wal-Mart officials said Wednesday that the retailer plans to re-stock a hot selling, Linux-based PC that is currently sold out on its Web site.
“The Everex TC2502 Green gPC will again be available at Walmart.com ‘in the coming weeks,’ said a spokesman for the company…”
Well if Walmart approves of Linux what is wrong with the rest of the world for goodness sake? Baldy

“InformationWeek: How is Microsoft’s strategy toward open source and viewpoint about open source shifting?
“Hilf: Years ago, Microsoft had a very specific interpretation of what open source is. Open source and Linux were sort of synonymous and it was sort of a specter-like ghost. A lot of what I’ve done over the past four years is help to parse out two issues: Where do we cooperate and where’s the value for our company in participating, and where specifically do we compete head-to-head and make sure there’s no grayness around that…?”

“The hotly anticipated Maemo operating system upgrade for the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet has leaked. Early reviewers are impressed with the upgrade’s faster performance and Mozilla-based Web browser.
On Tuesday, information on how to access the upgrade via an N810 download page appeared on the Internet Tablet Talk forum. The upgrade is reputedly the same that Nokia will make available for its soon to ship N810, which has similar internal specs to the year-old N800, while adding a slide-out hardware QWERTY thumb keyboard, GPS receiver, FM transmitter, and a light-sensing screen dimmer…”

“Firefox 3 was originally slated to arrive last summer. Obviously that didn’t happen, but where is the first beta, which even on revised roadmaps was said to arrive in October? Well the answer is it’s just around the corner. According to Mozilla Meeting notes, the third candidate for official beta 1 status is already up on the FTP servers, and Friday November 15 will mark the second round of community testing.
“The first round of testing went well according to Mozilla, and unless tomorrow’s testers find some huge bug in the third release candidate, we’ll likely see beta 1 emerge over the weekend or early next week at the latest…”
