Well a friend of mine got one of the $200 computers with GoS installed on it and for her that was a major hurdle for her , jumping from Windows and into Linux. Well it turns out that yes a lot of folks are attempting to run GoS but are having problems out the wazoo with it! Why, well there is little or no support for the system and there are sites where the new users are as clueless as Bush at a UN meeting. The first and major problem seems to be the decision to use E-17 as the desktop. Light yes easy to work with no, and that is multiplied by the fact that very few if any of the new users have a clue on what they are doing. LinuxChick has installed a virtual version to answer questions for them and she has been as busy as a one armed paper hanger with the hives. Where are the “developers”? They sold this to the masses and now are sitting back and watching as they the new users all flounder in a sea of unanswered questions. While the idea is a good one the end result has been a fiasco. I hope that the support gets better soon or a lot of folks will be running around bad mouthing Linux, because of the bad experience they had with this. For now if you want to check out LinuxChicks site it is Here she is also over on the Faqly site to answer questions when she can get there.

Netscape Navigator, once the de rigeur browser for more than 90% of web users, will no longer be supported by current owner AOL after February 2008. Link. Post your ode to this code in the comments. Extra points if you can manage to refer to yourself as a “netizen” with a straight face. (thanks Bill)
