Steven Sinofsky, the Senior Vice President for the Microsoft Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group, in an attempt to quell a beta tester rebellion over a perceived lack of feedback concerning bug reporting has made an astonishing confession: Windows 7 has at least 2000 bugs.
Gads only 2000! Not that security or ease of use really matters anymore right just release then darn thing and then 42 service paks to make it user friendly. Baldy

Mobile workers are especially vulnerable because they operate outside corporate security systems, and often return home to unload nasties into the company network. Paul Rubens finds seven excellent Firefox plugins to help protect the mobile worker.
Personally I use all but two of these little rascals and I might have to check into the others even if I do run Linux I would really hate to pick up a bug that can spread to my more uninformed Windows Users friends, Baldy

Marvell has created a new Plug Computing initiative to help developers build high-performance, always-on, always-connected and environmentally friendly little computer devices that plug into electrical wall sockets and act like embedded or appliance computers in the home. The little plug-in computers start with a gigahertz-class processor and are capable of acting like home media servers or network and Internet-connected devices that can run many software-based services.
Only one little problem there seems to be no video drivers included in the package, which might make it a tad bit of a handful to setup. Baldy

Morgantown, WV, Feb 9, 2009 — MEPIS has distributed ISO files for RC3 of SimplyMEPIS 8.0. The files for 32 and 64 bit processors are SimplyMEPIS-CD_7.9.96-rc3_32.iso and SimplyMEPIS-CD_7.9.96-rc3_64.iso.
For RC3, the kernel has been updated to upstream version, 2.6.27.15. Qemu 0.9.1+svn, libvirt 0.6., virt-manager 0.6.1, and virtinst 0.400.1 are available from the MEPIS pool to better match the virtualization configuration of the MEPIS kernel. At user requests, firefox 3.0.6-1, openoffice 3.0.0-5, and libgphoto2 2.4.3-1 updates were added to the SimplyMEPIS build. Community members have improved the MEPIS Network Assistant, the MEPIS Manual and they have added an autorun Intro to MEPIS to the CD.
When will SimplyMEPIS be released? MEPIS developer, Warren Woodford, says, “MEPIS 8.0 is in good shape but since MEPIS is meant to have a Debian Stable core, I’d prefer to wait and declare it final when Debian Lenny is released.”

Recent developments in the OpenChange and KDE open source projects are set to bridge a “missing link” in messaging and groupware compatibility from Microsoft’s Exchange to open source clients. Many open source groupware suites lay claim to this holy grail of interoperability, but the software to synchronise address book, task and calendar information with Exchange is sold as a proprietary extension.
