To one and all have a great and safe holiday and don’t eat too darn much. I will post photos of the food orgy I am preparing as soon as it gets done. And hoping I will be able to get a picture before it gets mangled by the horde.

People seem underwhelmed by Chromium OS, but maybe Google has a bigger plan: how about producing a netbook running Chromium OS, and giving it away? The small hardware costs would be covered by advertising *in the Web apps*. Would you use one?
Like there is no ad’s on Google to start with? Of course I would try one for goodness sake, Baldy

Bringing Windows 7 clients into your Linux network is exactly what the fine Samba server is made for. But every Windows release comes with new interop roadblocks, and Windows 7 is no exception. Charlie Schluting shows how to get past the latest ones.
You better pay attention to this one Slick, and have Raven check it out to fix your laptop. Baldy

Google unveiled its Debian Linux- and Chrome browser based “Chrome OS” today and announced the open-sourcing of the project. Due to ship on netbooks in late 2010, the lightweight, cloud-oriented Chrome OS offers seven-second boot-ups, works only with flash storage, and borrows from projects including Moblin. No beta release of Chrome OS was made available at the announcement this morning at Google’s Mountain View, Calif. headquarters, and no timetable for a beta was announced, but the final version should appear by the end of 2010. The distribution will not run on just any system, but can only be used with netbooks that adhere to Google’s x86 and ARM-based reference designs, and offer Chrome OS pre-installed, said Google.
And they claim 7 second boot times! This I really have to see to believe, Baldy

After checking them both I decided on the Eris or the “mini Droid” as I call it. It fit my hand better and just felt “right”. The learning curve is fun and when I have all the options and programs figured out I will let you all know of the pro’s and con’s of the little rascal. I do know that my GMail works fine. LOL

SourceForge Inc. has announced that it has officially changed its name to Geeknet. According to Scott L. Kauffman, President and CEO “Renaming the company Geeknet is the latest step in our rapid transformation.” The company believes that the new name will be a more accurate articulation of its business. Kauffman said “With Geeknet as our calling card on Madison Avenue, we are now able to clearly define the audience we serve and more effectively capture the business opportunity that we are addressing,”.
Darn now I have to change all my links, Baldy

If I had my way, I would encourage Verizon Wireless to invest in both hologram technology and more “Star Wars” film rights. That would allow the carrier to hire an Alec Guinness lookalike who could pop up in 3-D visions in Verizon stores across the country, wave his hand over racks full of Motorola’s new smartphone, and in full Obi-Wan Kenobi drag intone the words, “these are the Droids you’re looking for.” Ohhh-kayyyy, so maybe it’s a good thing I’m not in charge of Verizon marketing.
Okay I want one but was told to come back Monday when they have more in stock! Yes the demo is nice but the apps are lacking right now, however I am sure that will change really really fast if I know the open source world. Baldy

It isn’t very difficult to crimp your own CAT5 cabling. You can repair and re-use old cable, cut cable to exact lengths, and save money. Aaron Weiss shows how, with lots of good pictures.
Okay now there is no excuse for you to make your own, Baldy
